In October 2022, Sajid joined to lead the Azets Tax Investigations and Dispute Resolution national service line. Sajid started his career at HMRC and spent 27 years working as an experienced fully trained Senior Investigator. He has held a number of operational roles and for the last 9 years of HMRC was a Senior Investigator at the Fraud Investigation Service, where he conducted a broad range of in depth and intrusive investigations with substantial amounts of tax at risk under Code of Practice 9 (deliberate behaviour) and Code of Practice 8 (where COP9 is not appropriate). Sajid has spent over 4½ years in private practice where he used his knowledge to assist clients who were subject of a HMRC investigation or had a potential issue to resolve.
Sajid’s extensive knowledge and experience provides him with an insight into how HMRC conducts its investigations including its risk analysis process and the gathering and interrogation of information. Sajid is keen to use this to support clients who are either faced with an investigation or have a tax irregularity that requires resolution.
Also in his previous firm, Sajid was the lead on the Corporate Criminal Offence legislation (CCO) offering to clients and leveraging his past experience on dealing with fraud as a unique selling point.
