Charlie Wooster, Audit Senior in our Accounts & Business Advisory Services team based in Beaconsfield discusses his career milestones starting as an apprentice to becoming a Senior Auditor and what it’s like to work at Azets.

1. What is your role at Azets?

I’m an Audit Senior based in our Beaconsfield office. We provide audit and assurance services to thousands of clients across the UK ranging from complex corporate businesses to SMEs, across a wide range of industry sectors.

As an auditor, my aim is to help our clients improve and grow whilst minimising risk and achieving their wider business goals. With every project, I use my skills and experience to provide valuable independent insights and suggest improvements to the processes, controls, and key performance indicators, highlighting the risks and opportunities for development, offering concrete next steps on how to progress.

2. What are your main responsibilities working in the Audit and Accounts department?

My main responsibilities are to lead the audit team from planning to completion and divide the work between the audit team to ensure the work gets completed in a timely and efficient manner.

4. What did you do during your first week at Azets?

During my first week, I had an induction and a tour of the office. I then completed my mandatory training and then bank analysis work to get started.

5. What is the work culture like at Azets?

Everyone in the team is so welcoming and helpful, they are more than happy to go out of their way to assist. The supportive team culture has helped me get to where I am today.

6. What advice would you give someone who wants to start an apprenticeship?

It is challenging and rewarding, as you are working and studying at the same time but you gain a lot of on the job training whilst being in an office environment. It’s worth it in the end!

7. Why did you choose an apprenticeship over a University course?

I started doing work experience and then saw the firm were looking to hire an apprentice and it all went from there! What I liked about doing an apprenticeship over a university course was I wouldn’t end up with lots of debt at the end of studying.

8. What would you say are the benefits of apprenticeships?

The experience and support you gain from on the job training while studying is a big advantage. I’ve found that an apprenticeship has helped to shape my career journey.
