External Audit

The purpose of an external audit is to provide an independent assessment of an organisation’s finances. This review results in a financial statement, which can be used to empower decision making, reassure stakeholders/investors and provide information to the public on a company’s circumstances.

The external audit team will ensure their clients are up to date with ever changing updates in accounting and audit standards, whilst supporting any ad hoc questions throughout the year.

As an External Audit trainee, you will support on both statutory and non-statutory audits. This could involve planning audit procedures and tests, examining accounts and financial records, gathering evidence for tests, testing data using analytics, contribution towards a final audit report and maintaining strong client relationships.  

You would typically undertake the AAT, ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification in this position.

Internal Audit –

The purpose of an internal audit is to provide an independent and rigorous assessment that an organisation’s risk management and internal control processes are operating successfully.

An Internal auditor could be involved in assessing how a business manage their risk, evaluating existing internal controls, advising on the improvement of internal controls, and advising on regulatory changes and their impact on a business.

Internal Audit looks beyond financial risks, examining wider issues and their potential impact on a business. For example, how failure to manage a certain risk could harm a company’s reputation.

You would typically undertake the CIA qualification in this role.

We know tax can be confusing and complex, so we always offer clear, practical advice focused on helping our clients achieve their goals.

We offer services within several different areas of Tax, and you could work across any of these within your trainee programme.

As a Tax Trainee, you would typically undertake the ATT and CTA qualifications.

Corporate Tax

Corporate Tax is a direct tax collected by the Government and is based on a company’s profits. Within corporate tax you will work with a customer to ensure they are paying the correct level of tax, whilst maximising any relief available. A Corporate Tax advisor will make clients aware of any changes to legislation and how this may impact their business, alongside mitigating any tax risk. Effective Corporate Tax planning can improve a company’s bottom line, making the most of exemptions, allowances, and deductions.

This could include innovation tax relief and Capital Allowances, for example ensuring the correct equipment is purchased in a new manufacturing plant to ensure it qualifies for the relief programme.

Private Client Tax

Private Client tax advisors work with a range of individuals, from business owners to high net worth individuals to families, to make their wealth work hard for them. A trainee in this service area could be supporting with maximising tax relief and ensuring compliance with the latest HMRC legislation.

Services could include inheritance tax planning, succession planning, tax compliance, capital gains tax advice and personal tax planning.

We work with a large number of independent businesses, from hairdressers to taxi drivers, you could support them ensure their tax efficiency and compliance.

VAT and Indirect Tax

We work as an extension of our client’s teams to provide understandable and commercially focused advice and the best possible solutions. We provide assistance on compliance matters and risk management; identifying and maximising savings and opportunities and negotiate with tax authorities on our clients’ behalf.

Our clients cover the full business spectrum from individuals, entrepreneurs and family run businesses to corporate entities and multinational organisations. We can assist client who operate in the UK and work with those that are expanding locally, nationally and internationally to address their UK, EU and worldwide VAT needs.

Further Indirect taxes could include Stamp Duty and Property taxes, or Customs and Excise duties. Post-Brexit, we are helping our clients alleviate the impact of supply chain challenges and reduce the burden of compliance, administration and strategy.

The Accounting team offer a range of services, including bookkeeping, payroll, monthly reporting, cloud accounting, pensions, annual and monthly accounts preparation and statutory accounts and more. Alongside these financial services, you will also support clients to meet their reporting obligations to HMRC and advise on any legislation updates.

You would typically undertake the AAT, ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification in this position.

Our forensic accounting team are highly experienced in dealing with a variety of legal claims, whether civil, criminal, corporate or personal. You will use accountancy skills to investigate Fraud, act as expert witnesses in court cases on a variety of topics, dispute resolution, valuation services and support with employer covenant reviews.

As a trainee, you may be asked to conduct research and investigations to uncover necessary information, review documentation to identify potential discrepancies, quantify and calculate potential business loss and writing reports of your findings.

You would typically undertake the AAT, ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification in this position.

We specialise in Mergers & Acquisition Advisory, Capital Raising Advisory and Transaction Services across a broad variety of sectors, typically focusing on deals valued up to £50m. We support our clients on all aspects of the transaction from conception through to completion, providing trusted independent advice and a straightforward, personal approach.

As a trainee, you will develop the necessary skills to support on business acquisition, raising finance, business sales, financial due diligence and private equity fundraising. For example, our mergers and acquisitions teams would be involved in developing an acquisition strategy and identifying potential targets for purchase, managing negotiations and conducting business valuations, followed by tax structuring and raising finances for the purchases. These processes would be underpinned by overall project management of the acquisition.

You would typically undertake the AAT, ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification in this position.

With the ever-increasing digitalisation of business, a company becomes more susceptible to technology related risk. It's the job of our specialist technology consulting team to help clients navigate these challenges.

Our Business Technology team could provide advice on key technology and digital risks, conduct in-depth assessments of cyber security, review compliance with GDPR or an assess programme delivery maturity.

As a trainee, you will rotate across the three key teams in Business Technology Consulting.

To begin, you will undertake the CIA, and may later be supported to undertake a Masters in a relevant specialism, such as Data Analytics or Cyber Security.

Technology & Digital Assurance

Investment in technology is incredibly important, but can also be expensive, risky and disruptive. This team provide IT audits, IT governance and effectiveness assessments, IT risk assessments, supplier assessments and project delivery assurance.

Cyber Security

Our technology consulting team help protect businesses from the financial loss, reputational damage, legal consequences and regulatory action that can result from insufficient or outdated cyber security. Within this team, you could work on cyber security control reviews, bespoke training packages or focus on compliance with Data Protection reviews.

Data Analytics

Nowadays virtually every business holds a huge volume of data on their operations, offerings, people and customers. Our technology consulting team can help provide meaningful insight and value from this data. This could include; Identifying trends, patterns and high-risk issues to help inform decision-making, extracting data on process and providing both training in harnessing data to improve profits, efficiency and strategy.
