The historic market town of Crook lies about nine miles southwest of the city of Durham and a couple of miles north of the River Wear.
Formally a mining town, the centre of Crook is now a designated conservation area and home to a range of shops and businesses. Crook features two prominent churches, St Catherine's and Our Lady Immaculate & St Cuthbert's RC on Church Hill, as well as Crook Golf Club that lies to the east of the town.
