Maria studied psychology at Exeter University and later joined Baker Tilly, where she completed her ACA training. In 2005, Maria joined Wilkins Kennedy as an Assistant Manager, completing both the ICAEW Diploma and a Masters in Charity Accounting at Cass Business School, City University. Maria became an Audit Director of WK in 2012.
Maria has a broad portfolio of charity clients, spanning many sectors including religious, educational, medical, fundraising, and conservation, based in the UK and Falkland Islands. Other not for profit clients include a variety of pension schemes, trusts, clubs and associations, and a number of clients from the corporate sector.
In addition to statutory audit services, Maria has an in-depth involvement in assignments such as grant audits, reports on systems of controls, and the development of the firm’s management letter. Maria is currently advising clients on the transition to SORP 2015, which involves substantial input into the firm’s standard documents. Maria is the Deputy Qualified Person Responsible for Training, with a remit for London Trainees and assisting with training group-wide.
Maria is a member of both the ICAEW’s Audit & Assurance and the Financial Reporting Faculties, as well as the Charity and Voluntary Sector Group. She regularly represents the firm at charity events such as the Charity Finance Group member meetings.
