Glen studied at the Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative studies and Birmingham University for a Hotel Business Management Degree. On completion he worked in various Operational Hospitality Management positions learning about how the operations teams worked and taking many best practice examples from time spent in both Canada and the USA.
He made the switch to finance in 2000 but remained in the hospitality industry working in financial control for hotels, restaurants, leisure clubs, bars, event venues and other hospitality related companies. During this time Glen gained hands on operational exposure, resulting in a thorough understanding of internal systems and processes, and how internal operations decision making practices can better the financial controls. With this combined experience, Glen has a unique understanding of how hospitality businesses operate, and a track record of implementing strategies that yield real results.
During his 15 years working in hospitality finance Glen led and assisted in various finance projects including accounting system changes, property management system upgrades and changes, inventory control protocol and process, optical character recognition smart scanning and fully integrated accounting systems. One of his biggest successes in a previous role was achieving a fully paperless environment through combined use of Cloud accounting and document scanning. In this time he also gained exposure to many different types of accounting and finance programmes, payroll systems and IT support technology.
Glen joined Clark Howes in 2016 and has applied his commercial, technical and operational know-how to businesses in a multitude of different industries, such as information technology, retail, wholesale food supply as well as various service organisations. With clients ranging in size from start-up to larger, well-established businesses, Glen has been able to apply his broad background in data and systems project planning to create seamless transition processes, and help to guide start-up businesses on best practice.
Glen lives in Banbury with his wife and two sons. He enjoys spending time outdoors. If he wasn’t an accountant, he would be a national park ranger.
